pixar... fed to disney

full view or disney will eat you too!

ok, well I heard today that Disney has accuired pixar, and my first reaction was 'oh no'

unfortunately it seems to be a trend that the people who make things I like get bought or mergered (macromedia, discreet... any games company bought by EA)

and I'm sure that this will mean they get to do new and exciting things with the different teams working together and stuff but I see it as the end of an era almost, Pixar was to 3D what disney is to 2D and now disney will be just 'animation' not limited to either... wich is good I s'pose

anyway, the picture... anybody who knows their animation history will recognise the lamp as luxo jr. and the shadow is of course an evilified version of an early mickey mouse. I experimented with luxo having its light on with fancy volumetric lighting and stuff but it just didn't suit the picture.

I just want to make it clear that I dont think disney (or mickey) is evil, disney stuff rocks, so does pixars. but its just as an artist it kinda gets to me that now things like toy story and all the other ground breaking stuff that pixar have created now belongs to disney... *sigh*

ah well. such is the problem with commercial art I suppose, someone has to own it

p.s. btw I wanted to make a luxo jr for a while now and now that I have bulit (and rigged) one I feel much better
